You can pay your taxes in person in Canyon at 501 16th Street on the second floor of the Randall County Finance Building or in Amarillo at 4320 S. Western Street.  You can mail tax payments to P.O. Box 997 Canyon, TX  79015.  You can pay online by credit card, debit card, or by e-check by going to randallcounty.propertytaxpayments.net/search.  You can pay by phone by calling 1-877-690-3729.  You will need your property tax account number and you will need to enter a jurisdiction code, which is 5319.  Please note there is a fee for an online payment, phone payment, or any card payment.

We accept cash, checks, money orders, and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express).  Please note if using a credit card, the card must be in your name and we do ask for id with all credit card payments.  There is also a fee for any card payment.  The fee schedule is as follows:

  •  1.95% (no minimum transaction fee)  for debit cards
  •  2.45% (minimum transaction fee of $1.95) for credit cards
  • $1.50 to pay by echeck
Randall County does not collect this fee, it is collected by Forte our service provider.

Instead of increasing prices for all tax payers to cover credit card fees, we chose to only charge the customers who opt to use that form of payment.  The fee collected on property tax payments goes directly to the vendor and Randall County does not benefit from it.

Always reference the property tax account number you are paying on your check.  You can make the check payable to Christina McMurray, Tax Assessor-Collector or to Randall County Tax Office.

Please contact the Tax Office at 806-468-5540 and ask about:

Yes, but you must indicate on each check or online payment that you want the payment applied to the current taxes.

Tax statements are mailed to the last known owner at the last known address as close to October 1st as possible. Taxes are due upon receipt; however, you have until January 31st to pay the taxes without penalty or interest.  If January 31st falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline extends to the next business day afterward.  Mailed payments are considered timely based on the US Post Office postmark.  Online payments are considered timely based on the transaction date and time.

All businesses are taxed on their personal property (furniture, inventory, machinery equipment, etc) and mobile home owners are billed for their mobile homes, even if they do not own the land it sits on.  The real estate owner receives a separate tax statement for their property (land and buildings).

If you own property and do not receive a tax statement by late October, it is YOUR responsibility to notify us and request one.  Taxes are due the same time every year, and you are responsible for paying them by January 31st.

Tax statements are mailed as close to October 1st as possible.  If you do not receive a statement by late October, please call our office at (806) 468-5540 and request one.

While there are several steps to the procedure, your property can be sold at a tax sale for delinquent taxes.  The delinquent tax attorney can file a suit against the property and a judgement can be granted by the court.  The tax attorney and sheriff’s department can then auction your property at a tax sale.

Please contact the Potter-Randall Appraisal District at (806) 358-1601 with any questions regarding the ownership of property.

In order to receive an exemption for homestead, the property must belong to you on January 1st the year in which you apply, and it must by your primary residence.  Apply for a homestead exemption at the Potter-Randall Appraisal District 5701 Hollywood Rd Amarillo, TX  79118 or you can call them at (806) 358-1601.

The Potter-Randall Appraisal District is responsible for determining ownership and addresses of each property.  Please contact them at (806) 358-1601.

The appraised value of your property is determined by the Potter-Randall Appraisal District and it could have increased since last year.  The taxing jurisdictions set the tax rates every year and they may have increased their tax rate.  One, or a combination of these two reasons may be the answer to your questions.  The tax office does not appraise property, nor does it set tax rates.

Once the appraisal district completes a set of value or exemption changes, they will forward the information to the tax office, and the changes will be loaded in our system.  Once we make the adjustments, we will send you a statement for any taxes due after the adjustment or a refund if you have already paid the taxes.  *If changes are in the process of being made to an existing account by the appraisal district, the account is still subject to penalty and interest if not paid by January 31st.*

No.  You must obtain property in a legal manner, such as purchasing it, inheriting it, or being gifted it.  The only way to obtain property for delinquent property tax is to purchase it in a Sheriff’s Tax Sale.
